Officina39: Sustainable Chemistry for Textiles.

71701

Decreasing the exploitation of resources and virgin materials is one of the priorities of Officina39, the Italian company specializing in the sustainable conversion of chemistry applied to textiles. This quest in recent years has developed mainly along two lines: the development of circular dyestuffs and the gradual decrease of water use in laundry processes.

Officina39 in 2018 gained market recognition for revolutionizing the industry’s dyeing processes patenting Recycrom™: a full range of pigment powders 100% derived from recycled used clothing, fibrous material and textile scraps, obtained through a cutting-edge upcycling process. Officina39 has never stopped developing this key technology to provide brands with more and more sustainable options to color their collections: to meet the needs of its customers once again, Recycrom™ Ready to Dye has come to be. A range of 15 standard ready-in-stock colors, obtained from a minimum of 65% recycled textile pre- and post-consumer materials, to achieve fashionable dyes and colorations for use on cotton, wool, nylon or any cellulosic and natural fiber or blend.  Recycrom™ Ready to Dye offers brands the possibility to choose and create their own colors from a standard color card, a palette of darker and brighter shades, guaranteeing a true upcycling of textile waste without any chemical synthesis.

Also prominent in the panorama of technologies developed by Officina39 for the preservation of the planet’s resources are those of the Aqualess mission, a set of waterless processes that work together to reduce water consumption while ensuring optimal performance. By combining several of these technologies, Just One Step Process shines bright as the innovation that saves time, energy and resources: a raw garment enters the machine and a garment with a basic vintage effect comes out ready to be dried, already treated, bleached and softened. Now by using a combination of its Aqualess Activator, Aqualess Aged new 120, Oz-One powder/Smart Bleach the Italian company is able to produce garments with a “Vintage Bleaching effect” in a single step, avoiding intermediate drying.

In the path of making textile chemistry more and more sustainable, Officina39 has never shied away from advancing its processes and technologies, here are some of the latest:

  • Novapress Bleach, an innovative bleaching system that uses the press, to obtain unique geometric shapes, patterns and replicas on denim, with the bleaching effects remaining localized.

  • Novafoamer Ind/J, a permanganate free foaming agent for bleaching effects for the fashion industry and for discharging effects on denim. Compared to conventional systems it comes with advantages for the environment, consuming less water and energy, and it works on different kinds of denim fabric, including those containing elastomer. It gives good results on indigo and black denim and selected dischargeable dyestuffs like Officina39’s Nebudye.

  • Cool Coating, a process able to provide distinctive coating effects to give fashionable finishing. It employs a metal range of colors and Novapret Crack which used in combination with Recycrom™ grants a vintage look and cracked leather effect to garments.

  • Novantic, a set of superficial dyes offering a “washed-out look” or “old look” effect, very similar to pigment dyeing. Novantic dyes come with brilliant and deep shades, and ensure good reproducibility, better than pigment dyeing.

  • Novakor, a complete dischargeable dyestuffs range.

  • Nebudye. dyestuffs to obtain special vintage dyeing effect on machineries using nebulized fog systems.
