Top 3 Headlines (plus 1):

- Canon just released a new camera, the EOS R8! This is a release that follows on from the R7 and R10 and leaves just one more gap to fill: the R9. The R8 is an interesting camera that offers a very compelling feature set for $1500 USD. It has 4k video which is resampled from 6k (a big reason why I own the xt20), the camera also has 1080 up to 120fps which is very nice for any slow-motion cinematic shots! The camera unfortunately doesn't have in-camera stabilization and instead relys on lens stabilizaiton and that is what really keeps the price lower.

- Canon did release their first "afordable" camera in quite some time. The R50 which is a lot like the M50 lineup and it is a $680 camera geared towards vloggers and budget videography. It does have strong sensor as the R10, similar autofocus and great for the price, and really the other draw is Canons UI which continues to be benificial beginners.

- There has been some buzz about Xiaomi's incredible 12s Ultra and its ongoing Leica partnership. Rumors are floating around that the large lenses releasing for the 12s Ultra and its incredible IMX989 will be available this month in India! It is likely that the lenses will be pricey when they coem out and the phone matches the price of the Pixel 7 Pro at $900 to import from China and unfortunately has poor compatibility with any US carriers. Even if you got the phone to the US, many reports indicate that SMS is patchy and MMS is poor leaving you to rely on either Google Voice or RCS for everything and for mobile data you'd be restricted to 4g on a phone capable of 5g and also issues with Google services like not being able to backup photos to Google Photos. One day I do hope that Xiaomi phones will work here in the US because they really seem like great devices and compatability with proffessional camera lenses is hard to ignore.

- Also this week, Zeiss discontinued the ZX1 which was their $6000 that suffered from slow development and overpricing. The camera caused buzz for its ability to run Android which meant that you could not only take photos on it, but edit in professional apps like snapseed and lightroom and then be able to upload the photos to the cloud all from the camera. In theory it was a great concept, but a poorly designed UI that suffered from obvious touch issues, an outdated Android version (since develpoment began in 2018 and the product was released in 2020 with 2018 software). Sad to see it go, but the concept remains and the hope is that another company will revive this camera format.

Here are all of the photos on my blog on Imgur. Same photos, just another place to see them!
