Hey there , Long time no read. I want to start by apologising for the unplanned and unannounced break. It was a combination of things, but the biggest one was spending the entire month of August fighting off hackers after a data breach exposed my passwords online. Long story, and I will tell it properly another day. The important thing is I am back. And I came back just in time for Apple's biggest event in years. They announced the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, new Apple Watches in the Series 12 and Watch Ultra 4, and new AirPods 5. But the headline this year, and honestly one of the most interesting things Apple has done in a while, is the iPhone Duo, their first foldable iPhone. I am far from an Apple fanboy, but it does not take one to see that they genuinely did something interesting here. The foldable category has existed for seven years, and Apple still found a fresh angle and brought their own approach to it. As always, I am also glad that other manufacturers now have something new to study and respond to. You can find coverage in this week's reads and videos section. And as always with a major Apple release, the Apple ecosystem tightens its grip on a position that has yet to be properly challenged. That is actually what this week's featured article is about. It is a piece I wrote a while back on the Apple ecosystem that is still very relevant today, and this week's news makes it even more so. I also want to flag a change in direction for the newsletter going forward. There may be multiple featured articles in some editions, and not every edition will be built around a featured article the way it has been in the past. The newsletter will lean more toward the most relevant news of the week, and featured articles may sometimes come from other sources, not just things I have written myself. This should give me more consistency, more flexibility, and hopefully more time to start working on video content, which a few of you have been asking about. I hope this new approach delivers more value and relevance every week. As always, thank you for reading. |
